When you have a Thai chef at the helm of operations, you really can’t go wrong. This is perhaps what makes the Thai kiosk at the Food Studio, One Galle Face mall so special. In Thai “suk” means happy and eating from this outlet will definitely leave you with lots of that.
Suksamran is all about set meals priced between 900-1200 depending on the meat you pick. The options are of course Chicken, Fish, Prawn, Cuttlefish and Beef. The set comprises of a generous cup of Steamed Rice that sits surrounded by various Thai curries. Before we get down to any of the other elements of the set, let us tell you about that delectable Green Papaya Salad. Now this is a staple in all sets and rightfully so as the salad is an integral part of any Thai meal. The julienne cuts of raw papaya mixed with carrots and onion is simply a treat on its own. The best part is that the restaurant will more than oblige to give you a refill should you be like us and have the salad on its own before hitting the rice and curries!
We ordered the Chicken, Beef and Prawn and were really taken up by how distinctly different each meat was cooked. The Chicken stir fried with Basil had large chunks of aromatic meat and coupled with the Mixed Vegetable curry was quite nice. It was however the Beef version that we really loved. The well-done chunks cooked in traditional Black Pepper Sauce can actually be eaten on its own with the rice but the Red Curry Vegetable also gives the entire meal an exciting kick to it. We loved the combination of the Hot Garlic Pok Choi and Garlic Prawns as well and found the garlic-infused gravy to be particularly great. Finishing off one of these sets is a breeze and you can literally polish your plate. If you are dining with friends or family, we recommend ordering different sets as the quantity of curries makes it shareable and allows everyone to have a taste of so many authentic Thai dishes.
It’s also great to watch how the plating is done with such precision efficiency. The day we visited the Food Studio was particularly busy and a lot of people were opting for Thai, but this did not seem to frazzle the chef and her staff who made sure that each plate had all the elements perfectly assembled. Suksamran is definitely one of the outlets we would be returning to during visits to One Galle Face.
